ESPN Free Fantasy Leagues

June 3rd, 2009

As the ESPN fantasy commercials emphasize, fantasy leagues on ESPN are always free all of the time.  Live Scoring, complete commissioner tools, and everything else you need to customize your perfect league are available at one low cost - $0.00.  It’s not like paying $10 for a full year on StatTracker is going to cause any of us to go broke, but it is nice to see ESPN going the extra mile and giving us leagues for free.

If you are a commissioner running a league or looking to start a league you should consider ESPN.  There are always one or two owners in a league that will complain until the cows come home about having to pay $10 for StatTracker or a premium fee for a CBS league.  ESPN used to trail behind these guys in quality of product, but they have made great strides over the past couple of years.  In fact, ESPN went as far as advertising for fantasy-related developer jobs within their own fantasy league pages!  The effort clearly paid off.  ESPN launched a free fantasy mock draft lobby earlier this year that blew me away.  Here is the link to their mock drafts: http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/mockdraftlobby

Another great thing about ESPN is that they overload you with free fantasy football advice.  Sure you could pay for Insider and other analysis, but why do that when there are multiple daily articles posted all over the site for free?  ESPN is aggresively attacking market share by stressing everything is free, all of the time, and they mean it.  You could literally never leave that site and get all of the information that you need.  Eric Karabell, Matthew Berry, Stephania Bell, and AJ Mass are all quality writers and very entertaining reads.

So, you get free live scoring, free advice, and all the commissioner tools that you need.  Once you have your ESPN account set up you also get access to various other fantasy-related leagues, such as the very popular survivor pool. ESPN finally has it all together in one place, and its all free. Enjoy!
